Respecting our children means taking the time to truly look at the work they have done and not just throw out adjectives that in the end turn out to be meaningless. As described in this comic, children are a lot smarter than we give them credit!
Next time your child comes to you with something they’ve made, try asking them:
Tell me about your work!
Let them talk for a while and truly LISTEN to what they are saying, and respond as if they were an adult by asking some follow up questions.
Try staying away from obvious questions that you already have the answer to. You’ll be amazed at what they have to say!
