The NY Times offers this fascinating and honest study of self doubt. Sometimes, we are our own biggest obstacles. As educators and parents, one of our jobs is to help guide children and teach them how to overcome inner struggle. We have a huge ability to help because FEAR is something we are all familiar with.
This film shows real people confronting a very real and very scary challenge. There is a ten meter tower set up over a swimming pool. First, divers climb. Then comes the decision to either jump… or climb back down.
From the filmmaker:
“In our films, which we often call studies, we want to portray human behavior, rather than tell our own stories about it. We hope the result is a series of meaningful references, in the form of moving images. “Ten Meter Tower” may take place in Sweden, but we think it elucidates something essentially human, that transcends culture and origins. Overcoming our most cautious impulses with bravery unites all humankind. It’s something that has shaped us through the ages.”
