In part 1 this 3 part series, our very own Founder and Owner, Vivian Belmont, shares a personal story about motherhood…
Do you believe in miracles? I do! After 23 years, I’m a Mom for the third time!
When I was growing up, I always imagined that I would have a lot of children. I really wanted to be a Mom and favored baby dolls over Barbies as I felt the babies needed nurturing. I loved feeding and clothing and protecting and educating (can you imagine!?) and just loving. I was thrilled when I became a “real Mom” to two fantastic daughters, Amelia and Natasha, who are now all grown up and in their 20’s. I am very lucky that they live near me in Los Angeles and are a huge part of my life.
You’re probably wondering things like… How did she do that? Why did she do that?
Well, here it is. I’m amicably divorced from Amelia and Natasha’s father, and when I married my partner Linda, she had never had the chance to be a mother. She was 54 at the time, and the question was… is it possible to be a mother at this age? She said, “It’s too bad I’ll never be a mom”. I said, “How do you know? Maybe you could be. ”
And so we persisted. It launched us into a journey of research and discovery, successes and disappointments, and after a couple years, Linda was carrying our future child.
A baby would mean big changes for my girls
When we started expecting, however, there was a lot of apprehension from my daughters (Turns out real children are a little more complicated than baby dolls!). A baby would mean big changes for all of us, and my girls were unsure and protective of me.
Sometimes the most incredible things in life are the least expected
The day Silas arrived, Amelia and Natasha fell in love. He is not just my miracle, he is our whole family’s miracle! One of my favorite pictures of all time that I’m sharing with you is of the three of them the day Silas was born. It makes my heart sing! They often stop by to visit their new little brother Silas. I’m so thankful to have such a loving family and I treasure each moment we share together.
